Earth Day Resources

The Green Life encourages citizens to reclaim Earth Day from greenwashers. Earth Day started as a national day of observance of problems facing the planet, but in recent years, corporate sponsors of Earth Day events have tried to turn April 22nd into a day of observance of themselves. The Green Life aims to help event organizers, participants and appropriate sponsors to counter the greenwashing of Earth Day.

Planning and Running Your Environmental Event: A Student Handbook
This guide walks you step by step through all phases of the event process. “Treat this workbook as a window into the collected experience of many people who have conceived, organized and run successful environmental gatherings of all sizes,” state the authors. “For us, ‘success’ means motivating people to change their behavior in ways that support environmental responsibility, to improve real indicators of environmental quality, and to promote sustainable economic development in their regions. Success means changing the decisions people make everyday in their unique lives—now.” Download the handbook. (PDF, 1 MB)
