CONSUMER CAMPAIGN CLEARINGHOUSE
Biodemocracy Alliance
"There is mounting evidence that genetically engineered foods, crops, and animals pose unacceptable risks for public health, the environment, and the survival of family farms and traditional rural communities.
"Therefore, we the undersigned, declare that people and communities across the United States and the world have an inalienable right to pass laws banning the cultivation and production of genetically engineered crops and animals.
"Any government, elected official, judicial body, corporation, or trade association interfering with this basic right is guilty of the crime of suppressing democracy and will be held accountable." Take_Action_> |
Don't Buy SFI
"I am writing to ask of the AF&PA Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) to cease its labeling of wood and paper products and end its advertising campaign until the SFI meets basic environmental standards.
"The SFI remains highly inadequate as a certification system because it cannot guarantee that wood products come from environmentally or socially well-managed forests. Among other things, the SFI does not protect old growth forests, does not protect roadless areas and U.S. public lands, does not protect natural forests from conversion to tree farms and urban sprawl, does not adequately restrict clearcutting, and does not consistently protect and help recover imperiled species. Despite this, the SFI is engaging in a dramatic public relations campaign to convince the American public that the SFI label symbolizes environmentally-friendly forestry. SFI on-product labels are now appearing in retail stores around the country.
"While we appreciate the SFI's recent improvements, the SFI is far from being a credible measure of 'sustainable' forestry. Until these environmental improvements are made, I pledge to not buy SFI products." Take_Action_> |
Ecopledge
"Through ecopledge I will join a community of environmentally conscious citizens. We will work together to identify companies that can make specific, practical improvements to their environmental behavior, and we will ask the companies to make those changes. If companies refuse, each member will decide whether to withhold his or her work, dollars, and investments from them." Take_Action_>

GE Food Alert
"I recently discovered that many Kraft products contain virtually unregulated and untested genetically engineered (GE) ingredients, and I am concerned about the risks they pose to my family's health and the environment.
"Mounting scientific evidence suggests that GE foods may set off new allergies and produce new toxins, while their production may result in the use of more dangerous pesticides.
"Kraft has stopped using genetically engineered ingredients in its European products, and I feel that its customers here deserve the same assurance of safety and quality. Please stop this experiment on our health and environment. Stop using genetically engineered ingredients." Take_Action_> |
Jumpstart Ford
"I am writing to express my deep concern about your companys disproportionate contribution to Americas oil addiction and the global warming crisis, and to urge Ford to increase its average fleet fuel economy to 50 mpg by 2010 and to reduce fleet greenhouse gas emissions to zero by 2020.
"Ford claims to be an environmental company, but has failed to live up to its rhetoric. Ford vehicles account for approximately nine percent of the total annual U.S. oil consumption and on average Ford cars are the worst global warming polluters. The fact is that Ford currently has the technology to make cleaner vehiclesincluding SUVsthat get better gas mileage. Your companys failure to meet its promised SUV emissions reductions by 2005 comes down to your decision to put your profit margin above the environment, rainforests, human rights, national security, and autoworkers livelihoods. On the cusp of your 100th anniversary, please commit to leading the automotive industry in clean vehicle technologies." Take_Action_> |
No Dirty Gold
"I support the No Dirty Gold campaign to end destructive gold mining practices. I call on retailers and manufacturers of gold jewelry, electronics, and other goods to work to ensure that the gold in their products was not produced at the expense of local communities, workers, and the environment. I demand that the global mining industry provide retailers and consumers an alternative to dirty gold." Take_Action_>

Seafood Safety
"As a seafood consumer, I am very concerned about potentially dangerous levels of mercury in the seafood my family and I eat. The joint Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) consumer advisory about methylmercury in fish and shellfish is confusing, inadequate and poorly publicized. The FDA should clarify its warnings and require signs in stores to enable consumers to make informed choices about seafood purchases." Take_Action_>
