Stop the Junk

Click here to take action today!

A huge amount of junk mail is sent each year – 85,000,000,000 catalogs, credit card offers, and other ads.  This requires literally 100 million trees’ worth of paper, and is mostly unwanted and discarded.

How can we reduce this waste?  Obviously, it’s important for us to recycle the junk we get.  But more important, we need the industry to do its part to cut down on waste: send less mail and use more recycled paper.

Unfortunately, this is a huge industry, and it is sending billions of pieces of mail every week.  We should definitely recycle, but alone, each one of us is a pretty small drop in the bucket.

By joining together, we’ll make a big impact on recycling, and get the industry to notice us.  Join the Green Life pledge: we promise to recycle junk mail, and we’re calling on companies to do their part to reduce paper waste too.

"Holding Corporations Accountable" is the slogan of the Oakland-based nonprofit CorpWatch. The CorpWatch Research Guide helps you hold corporations accountable through independent research. Whether your goal is to investigate how much your local power plant has paid in pollution fines; learn the health effects of chemical ingredients listed on product packaging; or examine a company's environmental record to see if they deserve your business, the CorpWatch guide will show you how.
